Of Race and Reconciliation

Chronicles the Chinese experience in America around the year 1885. That was the year the Chinese residents of Tacoma were forcefully expelled from the city against the backdrop of increasingly alarming and even violent tensions between American citizens caught in an economic downturn and Chinese immigrants seeking opportunity in “Gum San,” or the Land of the Golden Mountains they had heard about in America.

Of Race and Reconciliation producer Forrest Burger traveled through six states to take an unflinching look at this period in time, but also document how the tensions between American citizens and immigrant populations provide relevant lessons in today’s political climate, and in Tacoma’s case, how far efforts toward reconciliation have come.

Thirsty Land

A documentary film about extreme drought, agriculture, & the water crisis in the Western United States and how these challenges impact farmers, cities, and local communities. We hear from world-renown water and climate experts, farmers, city and state leaders who tell us their stories about managing water resources in an already dry climate, now impacted by drought.

The film was shot during the spring, summer and fall of 2015, during the record-breaking drought in California. Managing water resources in the west is vital to the production of food for Americans and for people all over the world. California’s farmers provide approximately 50 percent of all fruits and vegetables for the United States, and 20%for the world. Without water, food production is not possible. City and state leaders all across the west are working together with farmers to ensure there’s enough water to go around for everyone.

Examines US policy decisions that triggered the rise of undocumented immigration in a deeply moving documentary program that explores the under-reported lives of Mexicans living and raising families in the United States. In telling the stories of several undocumented Mexican-Americans, BEYOND BORDERS reveals the reasons why millions of Mexican workers have settled in the US over the past four decades instead of returning home. It also illuminates the remarkable networks that connect the film’s characters with the families they left behind, and the very real human impact of the anti-immigration backlash now sweeping the country.
