There are three spots left for the Paper Moon workshop, which is scheduled to be held on Monday, February 4th from 3:45 to 4:45 pm. In this session we will learn a little about origami, some paper circuitry, and talk about the moon.
This workshop is part of the Library Maker Mondays series, which is a series of fun, creative workshops where librarians make things and learn some new things (or practice some skills they already have) in the process.

We have also started adding Tuesdays to the mix, re-running some of the Monday workshops for those who cannot make it. Anna Bayerl has graciously offered to host the first one on January 22nd at Dake School Library in West Irondequoit. The workshop will be Block Coding for Librarians (Beginner).

In this engaging workshop, Kathleen Odean will introduce outstanding books published during the last year for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. She will present excellent new picture books, easy readers, fiction, nonfiction, biography, and poetry. They will include read-alouds, independent reading titles, and books for reading clubs and discussion groups. The workshop will offer practical ideas for promoting the books and integrating them into classrooms. Participants will learn about resources, websites, display ideas, and extension activities to use with these and other books. Each participant will receive an extensive handout of resource lists and curriculum-related booklists. The day will also incorporate time to share ideas with each other.

In this popular workshop, Kathleen Odean highlights the very best recently published books for young adults, including a variety of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. She shares practical activities and proven tips for promoting the books and integrating them into the curriculum. This lively informative day gives participants a wealth of top new titles to share with students both in the curriculum and for independent reading. Participants in Kathleen’s workshop will receive a comprehensive handout of related guides, resources, activities, and ideas aligned with the Common Core Standards and employing a variety of technology tools.
This is Kathleen’s fifteenth year of presenting all-day workshops that receive excellent evaluations from participants. She was a public and school librarian for 17 years and served as chairperson of the Newbery Award Committee. She has presented at conferences throughout the U.S.

Is your school library Future Ready? Join us for a full day professional development session, where Mark Ray will lead participants as they explore the Future Ready Librarians Framework. This will include the school librarians role in curation and dissemination of content, working as a curriculum/tech/pedagogy consultant alongside classroom teachers, empowering students within a personalized learning environment, and new directions for learning commons/lab type spaces. The session is open to Librarians, Administrators, and Instructional Leaders.
Mark Ray is currently Director of Innovation and Library Services for Vancouver Public Schools (WA) and Future Ready Librarians Lead. A 20-year teacher librarian and instructional technology facilitator, Mark was the 2012 Washington State Teacher of the Year and named a National School Boards Association “20 to Watch” in 2015. His work has focused on digital learning, professional development and re-imagining school librarians and libraries.
